addendum: I hadn't read the other comments before I posted the above; sorry! The place you give the credit is on the page where you made the icon, http://www.livejournal.com/editpics.bml#upload. You have the two spaces at the top of the box to put the url or file name for the icon itself, then below that you are to identify it by keyword (so that you can choose which one will appear; otherwise, it always goes to the default one, and there's a box to check/uncheck for that). At the bottom where it says "Comment" is where you give the credit to lit_gal. No, that credit will not appear on the icon itself. However, if/when people check out your icon collection (by going to your userinfo page and tapping on your default icon, which appears in the upper right area), they'll then go to a page which has all your icons, and next to them will be the keywords and the credits. It's less like a painter's signature right on the canvas and more like endnotes--in the back of the book, where the reader can hunt them up or not, as she chooses. Go to the userpage of someone who seems to have a number of icons, and you can check this out. Hope that helps!
