LMFA Nominations
Aug. 29th, 2006 09:09 pmI've been reading all the great news as the nominations have flowed out this week -- man, those people on the LMFA committee are working flat out to make all this possible and they must be ready to drop from exhaustion! Bless their hearts and a hearty round of applause for all of them!
I'm really touched this year by the loyalty of the gen readers, especially since I've not written much gen in the past year. Gone Fishin' was nominated for 'episode related' and The Auction for 'angst' and 'smarm'. I also received a nomination for 'Classic Author' gen, which is really kind as I've only been in the fandom for less than four years. (I know, seems like longer. How did I live without Blair and Jim???? Of course, Iolaus and Hercules are quite put out that I not only abandoned them but brought quite a few others with me, LOL.)
Alyjude and I are nominated in slash for 'collaboration' on Desperate Journey, the second last story in the the Shaman's Journey arc. Given that Aly is one of my personal all-time favourite authors, it's a special thrill for me to see my name there along side hers.
I'm particularly blown away that I received an art nomination under gen, 'hand drawn' for my charcoal portrait of Blair. The great Lorraine tutored me through this piece at Big Bear a year ago, my first attempt at art of any kind in over thirty years, so it's amazing to have it nominated. I attribute it's nomination entirely to her guidance and encouragement.
Aly, Jess, Sylvette and I are all thrilled with the story nominations that Shaman's Journey has been given: established relationship, sentinel and guide, case and action, series, and collaboration. Since only three of the five can go on the ballot, we've got some decisions to make! In addition, our webmistress, Virginia Sky, has received a site nomination for multiple authors, 1-5, design. The Blair sketch I mentioned above was one of the art pieces done for this series and, given the amazing artists we had supporting us, I predict more art from Shaman's Journey will also be on the final ballot.
I'm very grateful to those who supported all of these nominations this year. I write and create art to entertain and such acknowledgement by the readers is infinitely precious to me. And I have to say that it's an honour to be included among the great writers and artists who have also received nominations this year. What struck me during the nominations process, though, was the incredible number of stories and artwork that were recommended for nomination on the LMFA site, and those lists are only the tip of the iceberg of what is produced each year for our enjoyment. This fandom is particularly blessed with outstanding contributors and, though only a few can be on the final ballot, we all win every day given the stories, art and songvids, and the wonderful resource websites, that are created in our collective celebration of Jim and Blair and their family and friends. So, hats off to everyone for what you contribute so freely and a most sincere 'thank you'.

Date: 2006-08-30 06:20 am (UTC)And, yeah, most definitely, champagne for the LMFA lasses, and strawberries dipped in chocolate! My mind boggles at all the categories and sub-categories they coordinate each year. Such generosity of spirit!

Date: 2006-08-30 08:21 pm (UTC)I don't think you know how much your writing has come to mean in a lot of our lives. While I was so very sick, I loaded your two Western stories and read them again. They are so clear, descriptive and COMFORTABLE. Not all your stories are that comfortable - but these are the ones I go to when I want comfort fic. So, thank you!

Date: 2006-08-31 01:49 am (UTC)And I am so glad to know that Bitterwood Creek and Oak Creek Canyon brought you some comfort when things weren't at all fun for you. I'm currently working on another Brothers in Time AU, this time during the American Revolution, that might end up being pretty long, LOL -- it's gen so far but might end up with a slash version, too. Not sure at this point. I am truly, truly touched that you enjoy my stories so much. Thank you.
